Best Places to Shop in Maui
NEAR THE AIRPORT (KAHULUI):
Costco: In Kahului. If you are renting a car, Costco is right by the airport. This is the only Costco on the island, so it gets crowded. It is also the cheapest place to get gas but be prepared for extremely long lines. Please Note: Due to the warm weather and tropical climate in Maui, bugs are a fact of life. Cockroaches have been known to hide in the crevices in the boxes from Costco. If you do use their boxes, make sure to unload them outside of the condo and thoroughly inspect all items before bringing them inside. Hi-Tech Kahului Surf Shop: In Kahului, close to the airport but still on the way to Kihei. This is the “go-to” surf shop in Maui. This is the absolute best place to rent your gear if you are an experienced surfer, SUP boarder, windsurfer, etc. Even if you aren’t, it’s a cool surf shop to check out. Down to Earth Organic & Natural: Close to the airport but still on the way to Kihei. They have a great selection of healthy foods, vitamins and supplements, and organic produce. They also have a fresh deli and bakery. Walmart: In Kahului, not far from the airport but on the way to Kihei. Lots of souvenir shopping and anything else you might need, including a somewhat limited selection of groceries. Target: In Kahului, not far from the airport but still on the way to Kihei. Not as crowded as Costco or Walmart and they have a good selection of groceries. Whole Foods: In Kahului. A little further away from the airport but still on the way to Kihei. Organic groceries and other products. Queen’s Ka’ahumanu Center: Maui’s biggest mall. It has chain stores like Macy’s, Bath & Bodyworks, Victoria’s Secret, and Champs, as well as some local stores found only in Maui. They usually have live music and events on the weekend. KIHEI: ABC Stores: There are three in Kihei. They are great little convenience stores that offer souvenirs, t-shirts, beach gear, sunblock, and anything else you might need. The South Kihei location has a small selection of groceries, fresh produce, and a deli where you can order food to go. North Kihei Farmer’s Market: A family-owned farmer’s market with local produce, baked goods, prepared foods, and samples. Check their website for days and hours. Longs Drugs: The only store open 24 hours in Kihei. Safeway: Located in the Pi’ilani Village Shopping Center. They have decent prices (for Maui) and the best selection in Kihei. Maui Tropix: Located in the Pi’ilani Village Shopping Center. Home of the local favorite “Maui Built” clothing line. Ross: Located in the Pi’ilani Village Shopping Center. The only discount department store in Kihei. Times Supermarket: Decent prices, ok selection. It’s a local favorite for poke bowls. Tamura’s Fine Wines & Liquors: A liquor store that offers a wide variety of beers, wines, spirits, and cigars, plus fresh catch poke bowls. Foodland: A supermarket with a smaller selection than Safeway. Another local favorite for poke bowls. Kihei Kalama Village: A fun little shopping village with many souvenir stores, boutiques, and places to eat. Kihei Caffe is great for breakfast and is open until 2 p.m. Paia Fish House and the Tiki Lounge are great lunch or early afternoon options. Three’s Bar and Grill serves all day and has a great happy hour. Haui’s Life’s a Beach is a fun little drinking spot right on the corner of S. Kihei Road. You can grab some fish tacos, sit outside on the corner patio, and soak in the Maui sunshine. Hi-Tech Kihei Surf Shop: Kihei’s local surf shop. The place to get all your reef-safe sunblock, rashguards, and other beach gear. Located right next door to Maui Wave Riders. Hawaii Gift & Craft: One-of-a-kind gifts and crafts that are priced much cheaper than you will find at other stores. Located in Dolphin Plaza, right next to Maui Gelato. Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods: This is a great little health food store with fresh organic fruits, groceries, and a little deli. It is pricey, though. Aloha Discount Liquor: A locally-owned liquor store with a little bit of everything. WAILEA: Shops at Wailea: A nice open-air shopping center with upscale shopping, art galleries, and dining. Wailea Village: Wailea Village is South Maui’s newest dining and shopping haven bringing a fresh and local perspective—more than 90 percent of the shops are locally-owned small businesses. They have a farmer’s market every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wailea Wine: They carry fine spirits and unique beers to satisfy all your beverage needs. They have everything from aged whiskeys, bourbons, single malt scotches, seasonal microbrews, and South Maui’s best cigar selection. DELIVERY SERVICES: Instacart delivers from Costco, Safeway, Times Supermarket, and several other grocery stores.
